Pens UP! Guns Down Professional Development Workshops are educational strategies classes for workforce teambuilding and classroom success. The two cornerstone workshops help educators build or develop essentials in the areas of cognitive styles processing and classroom navigation. The following classes and class descriptions highlight each workshop’s content:
Cognitive Styles Processing (Length: 4-hours)
The Cognitive Styles Processing workshop is designed to develop or deepen an educator’s understanding regarding decision-making, creativity and problem solving. Educators teach a diversity of learners and work in diverse teams. Teams consist of members with different cognitive styles (thinking styles). These differences can cause tension and strained relationships between team members. If the differences are not understood and appropriately managed, the result could be team failure and unaccomplished work outcomes. Educators typically work in teams – in the classroom and on the job. Participants will learn/discover their preferred thinking style and use their cognitive style in a real-time teambuilding project. The workshop will also include techniques for developing successful teams by use of thinking styles to facilitate talent management and workplace growth.
The Art of Classroom Navigation (Length: 4-hours)
The Art of Classroom Navigation workshop is an interactive simulation of schoolroom management techniques. A teacher’s success in the classroom requires more than simply knowing the material and how to teach the material. The ability to manage the environment and the students in that setting in order to create a positive learning province is vital and requires employment of strategies transparent to the students. Participants in this workshop will learn preventive measures concerning how to diminish the likelihood of inappropriate behaviors and how to manage situations regarding inappropriate behaviors that may arise despite proper classroom preparation. The creation of a peer repository will be formed and the workshop will culminate with a capstone exercise which affords practical application of the material learned.
The offering for Cognitive Styles Processing consists of two consecutive days from 5:00-7:00 p.m. weeknights. The offering for The Art of Classroom Navigation consists of two consecutive days from 5:00-7:00 p.m. weeknights. The cost for each workshop is $150 per person.
